Getting Out the Message
by Prof. Yirmiyahu Branover

In September of 2009, the United States Air Force will add a new fighter jet to its fleet: the EA 18g, known by its nickname, "the Growler." The EA 18g specializes in electronic warfare; it can automatically identify and interfere with any communication system of the enemy: radio, radar, wireless and cellular.

The fighter jet also carries HARM missiles that can track and destroy any land-based communication system. The innovation of the EA 18g is that it is the first fighter jet equipped with jamming equipment that can distinguish between friend and foe. It knocks out enemy communications while leaving a UHF (ultra high-frequency) channel open for Navy dispatches.

Just as on the physical battleground, in the spiritual field as well, communication is the name of the game. In the cosmic battle between good and evil, the power of communication is crucial.

Most countries in the world today are run by democratic governments that reflect the will of the people. The popular mood is expressed through the media. In essence, this is the means through which the government stabilizes and promotes itself. A false or biased media creates an inaccurate perception of the public will and leads to a government that opposes the will of the people. A fair and balanced media leads to a positive public mood and leads to a constructive government.

Moreover, the government also has the power to promote the media that reflects and supports its message, while suppressing dissenting media. Despite constitutional assurances of a free press and rights to free speech, the reality can sometimes unfold differently.

Warriors for truth know that they must get their message out to the public if they are to have any hope of making a positive change. The good news is that “A little bit of light dispels a lot of darkness.” Even if it seems that the forces of opposition have louder voices and more means at their disposal to disseminate their message, the truth will eventually prevail and be upheld.

Eventually all communications networks of the world will be transformed towards one end: to publicize the truth of One G-d in this universe. Rabbi Schneur Zalmen of Liadi, founder of Chabad Chassidism, once predicted, “When Moshiach comes, we will read about it in the newspapers.” Then we will merit the fulfillment of the prophecy, “I will transform all nations to be pure of tongue to call in the name of G-d and serve Him as one.”
