On Sunday, Feb. 28th , Chabad of Holmdel & Colts Neck, now in its second year of service to the Jewish Community, held its annual Purim extravaganza. Young and old gathered at the new Chabad location on Holmdel Rd. for a festive evening of spiritual and physical rejoicing. The event began with the traditional reading of the Megillah, the ancient Hebrew scroll, within which the story of Purim is recorded, accompanied by a multimedia presentation, the program then continued with a Kosher Chinese Buffet, costume prizes and arts-and-crafts for the kids.
Purim is traditionally a festival of gifts, costumes, abundant charity and joyous feasting, but to Rabbi Ephi Carlebach, director of Chabad of Holmdel, it’s really so much more. Calling it “ An ancient holiday with a modern message” Rabbi Carlebach believes that the historic sequence of miraculous events that brought about the salvation of the entire Jewish nation at that time, contains within it a powerful message to the Jews of today: “the bravery of Mordechai and the heroism of queen Esther live on within the Jewish Soul and can serve as inspiration in each of our own lives, when it comes to dealing with adversity and our own personal Hamans”
